Timing Belt Replacement

Many modern engines use a toothed rubber belt to drive the camshaft commonly called the timing belt. Vehicle manufacturers specify an age and mileage for replacement. This should be carefully followed to avoid timing belt failure, which can result in serious engine damage.

If the timing belt fails and the engine is of “interference” design, the pistons will hit the open valves causing them to bend. Repairs quite often require a major engine repair or even replacement
